Increasing environmental degradation requires schools not only to improve students' environmental knowledge but also to foster pro-environmental behavior through meaningful and contextual learning experiences. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of local wisdom-based ecological schools in fostering pro-environmental behavior among elementary school students in Purwakarta Regency, Indonesia. A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed. The quantitative phase involved 178 fifth-grade students from three public elementary schools, while the qualitative phase included three school principals, six classroom teachers, and three community representatives selected purposively. Data were collected through a validated pro-environmental behavior questionnaire, interviews, observations, and document analysis. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test, whereas qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students' pro-environmental behavior following the implementation of the local wisdom-based ecological school program (t(177) = 19.27, p < .001; Cohen's d = 1.44). Improvements were evident in environmental hygiene, waste management, water and energy conservation, plant care, and participation in school environmental activities. Qualitative findings further indicated that the integration of the Tatanen di Bale Atikan program, the Pancaniti system of thinking, school culture, and community participation strengthened the internalization of environmental values. The study concludes that local wisdom-based ecological schools provide an effective approach to fostering pro-environmental behavior among elementary school students.
